You wilfully ignore the USA's involvement, that of promising Full independence to Vietnam only to side with the French for other reasons (Realpolitik) Mr Minh had already met a member of the US secret service & had got reurance's of Vietnamese sovereignty post war. The US mis-calculated the fact that Ho chi Minh was first a nationalist & second a socialist proving (to the confusion of students) that both is possible. Britains place there was always to be temporary as all axis territory's had to be administered immediately after the war
